A delegation from the Geological Bureau of Hunan Province (China) visited the Headquarters of the Russian Geographical Society in Moscow. The guests learned about the history of Russia’s oldest public organization and current international projects of the RGS.
The visit of the Chinese colleagues began with an acquaintance with the richest historical and cultural heritage of the Society. A tour of the Headquarters was organized for the foreign delegation headed by Fengjuan Liu, Deputy Director General of the bureau. The guests were told about key milestones in the more than 180-year history of the RGS, unique archival funds, outstanding Russian scientists and discoverers who made an invaluable contribution to the development of world geographical science.
During the bilateral dialogue, the parties exchanged experiences in attracting young people to scientific activities. Representatives of the RGS presented key areas of the Society’s modern activities, paying special attention to international projects: the development of a network of international Youth clubs of the RGS, academic exchange programs, and the celebration of BRICS Geographer’s Day. In turn, the Chinese colleagues introduced the Russian specialists in detail to the structure, scientific potential, and key tasks of the Geological Bureau of Hunan Province.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue cooperation in the format of a working group to identify the most promising areas of cooperation.
