The 5555th venue of the international educational campaign of the Russian Geographical Society "Geographical Dictation" has been registered. It is the venue of the National Payment Card System (NSPK) JSC – the operator of the Mir payment system – registered last week. Here 300 people will be able to answer the Dictation questions in a remote format.
The Geographical Dictation of the Russian Geographical Society will be held on October 30, 2020 for the eighth time. The campaign is educational in nature and is primarily aimed at popularizing the geography, natural and cultural heritage of Russia. Nevertheless, each participant is traditionally determined to earn the highest score with their knowledge. This time, the RGS will support such an aspiration for the first time: all participants of the event who will answer the questions at in-person and remote venues on October 30 will receive gifts from the RGS’s partner. Special prizes are waiting for those who get the highest score.
The NSPK participates in the international event of the RGS for the sixth time. The company also actively supports other projects of the Russian Geographical Society. In particular, with the support of the Mir payment system, a portal has been created that allows you to take an exciting virtual tour of the Konstantinovskaya Battery in Sevastopol – one of the headquarters of the Russian Geographical Society.
The Geographical Dictation has been held annually since 2015. Its participants anonymously answer questions about the geography of Russia. Over the entire history of the educational campaign of the Russian Geographical Society, more than 2.4 million people have taken part in it. Since 2017, the large-scale event has become international for the first time. By 2021, 122 countries had joined the campaign in total. The Geographical Dictation is taken on all continents. In 2021, its questions were answered at two Russian stations in Antarctica – “Progress” and “Mirny”. In 2018, the large-scale campaign of the RGS conquered space; since then it has been held annually on board the International Space Station.
Any Russian and foreign institutions can hold the Geographical Dictation within their walls: schools, universities, libraries, museums, national parks, nature reserves, and other organizations. Registration of venues continues on the website dictant.rgo.ru . You can apply to host the RGS’s event until October 21, 2022 inclusive.
To date, the number of venues of the Geographical Dictation of the Russian Geographical Society that have been registered is approaching 6,000. Applications were received from 87 Russian regions. In addition, to date, 171 foreign venues have been registered in 81 countries. Selections of the most outstanding venues are regularly published on the campaign's website.
The Geographical Dictation can also be taken on the Internet. In the remote format, the event starts on the website dictant.rgo.ru on the same day as at the in-person venues.
