An atlas-monograph «Geomorphology of the Seashores and Estuaries of the Rivers of Chukotka and the Koryak Highlands» has been published. The fundamental work was prepared by scientists from the Faculty of Geography of Lomonosov Moscow State University together with colleagues from the P. P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences with the grant support of the Russian Geographical Society.

The atlas reflects the results of the reaction of the coastal and estuarine systems of the marginal seas of northeastern Russia to global changes in natural conditions and anthropogenic impact. Primary attention is paid to river deltas as the most volatile and ecologically vulnerable natural objects. For the first time, field and literary data on the geology, hydrology, geomorphology, and morpholithodynamics of the seashores and estuaries of Chukotka and the Koryak Highlands are summarized in the form of a monograph atlas.

«For several decades (1969–2023), the staff at the Faculty of Geography of Lomonosov Moscow State University, the Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the M. K. Amosov Northeastern Federal University conducted research on the Arctic coast of Russia. A huge amount of scientific material has been collected on hydrology, channel morphodynamics and geomorphology of the estuaries of large rivers, which formed the basis of the publication,» said Elena Povalishnikova, atlas editor, senior researcher at the Department of Land Hydrology at the Faculty of Geography of Moscow State University.

The atlas-monograph contains 31 original maps of the geomorphology of the seashores and estuaries of the coasts of the East Siberian, Chukchi, Bering Seas and the Bering Strait. Geomorphological mapping was carried out on the basis of field route work and lab analysis of topographic maps and satellite images. All maps are published for the first time.

Based on geological and geomorphological data and analysis of literary and archival sources, the atlas formulates patterns and regional features of coastal and estuarine processes on the northeastern coast of Russia. Predictive assessments of the development of the coastal and estuarine systems of Chukotka and the Koryak Highlands in the context of global sea level rise have been performed, and an assessment of the anthropogenic impact on the natural complexes of the estuarine zones has been given.

The atlas-monograph «Geomorphology of the Seashores and Estuaries of the Rivers of Chukotka and the Koryak Highlands» is a specialized thematic publication for scientific reference purposes. It can be useful by specialists in the fields of geology, geomorphology, hydrology, coastal, riverbed processes, and environmental management.

The publication is currently undergoing moderation in the e-library system (Form ID: 24610191) and will be publicly available after verification is completed.
