The famous traveler’s vessel, which had been left in the Indian Ocean after an evacuation, was found on August 7. After inspection, it began to be towed to Mauritius.
Fedor Konyukhov was evacuated from the «AKROS» to the dry cargo ship ORE HONG KONG on March 30, 2025. It was not possible to take it aboard the vessel; it had to be left in the ocean with tracking devices still operational: an automatic identification system, a satellite tracker, and a flashing light.
The first report about the fate of the «AKROS» came on May 10, 2026. The crew of the vessel NORDIC NULUUJAAK discovered it approximately 600 nautical miles from Mauritius, took photos and videos, and transmitted the coordinates to the expedition headquarters. After a year of drifting, the hull appeared intact, the hatches remained sealed, and the even waterline indicated that there was no water in the compartments.
The «AKROS» was spotted again on July 27 between Madagascar and Réunion Island. Fedor Konyukhov’s team rented a 60-foot expedition vessel, the Ocean Tribe, in Mauritius and organized a search operation. Local fishermen and the Réunion coast guard joined the operation.
«In early August, we received information from a vessel that a boat had been spotted in the area. This was the second sighting in a year and a half. This time, we decided to take a risk and head out into the ocean, ” Oskar Konyukhov shared on his Telegram channel.
One of the fishermen discovered the «AKROS» on August 6, but he was unable to tow it due to its size and weight. A coast guard rescue boat was sent to assist. On the morning of August 7, the boat was handed over to the project team.
The inspection showed that the bow compartment remained dry, while the stern compartments were filled with water. Experts continue to assess the condition of the hull and equipment after a long stay in the ocean.
The «AKROS» participated in two expeditions of Fedor Konyukhov. In 2019, the traveler spent 154 days on it in the Pacific Ocean, and in 2025–115 days in the Southern Ocean. In total, the boat sailed with him for 269 days, after which it drifted for another 16 months without a person on board.
«At the moment, we are towing the 'AKROS’ to Mauritius. According to our calculations, we have another day’s journey ahead, ” is reported on Fedor Konyukhov’s Telegram channel.
