The Museum of the World Ocean in Kaliningrad will publish, for the first time in Russian, the book "Physical Geography" by Immanuel Kant. The unique edition will be a real scientific reconstruction.

The book, which is a collection of recordings of lectures by Immanuel Kant, was published during the lifetime of the great philosopher. In 1905 it was republished in Germany. The museum is translating the edition of the beginning of the last century. The layout of the book will be special: the reader will be able to see both the original text of the recorded lectures in German, and the Russian translation with illustrations made by the museum's artist Evgeny Mashkovsky. They show instruments and maps, there is, of course, a portrait of Kant himself. All drawings are made in a special technique.

“This is no longer a creative work, but a scientific reconstruction. Before creating one drawing, a lot of work is being done on the selection of data by the museum's research staff. And we are doing the same thing Kant once did. He didn't travel the world himself. He traveled via libraries – studied books and so prepared his lectures. And today we rely on the same information. All of it is in the archives of different libraries,” said Evgeny Mashkovsky.

The publication – behind every illustration, every paragraph of the text of which is a great scientific work – will be published in December 2023.

The Museum of the World Ocean was created on April 12, 1990. According to the charter, it is a national center for scientific research and scientific and methodological work in the field of studying the history of exploration and the nature of the ocean. The only wharf for the historical fleet in the country was created here, where the following vessels are moored: the world's largest research vessel-museum the “Vityaz”; the country's only submarine-museum B-413 of the 641st project ; the world's only space communication vessel "Cosmonaut Viktor Patsaev", which has a museum exhibition; the SRT-129, the only fishing vessel-museum in the country. The vessels present the history of exploration and development of the World Ocean.
