The Russian Geographical Society announces the start of venue registration for the 11th International Geographical Dictation. The large-scale educational campaign will take place in two formats: the in-person dictation will take place on November 30, and its online version will be available for two weeks, from November 30 to December 14.

For the 11th time, thousands of venues across Russia and abroad will open their doors to anyone who wants to test their knowledge of geography. Over the years, the educational campaign of the Russian Geographical Society has covered all regions of the Russian Federation and all continents of the planet. The Dictation was conducted in the sky, underground, underwater, and even in space. And this year we will continue to surprise you with new ideas.
As before, it will be possible to take the Geographical Dictation in schools and universities, museums and libraries, nature reserves and national parks, on trains, planes, and at many other venues. Traditionally, the main version includes 40 questions, divided into two parts according to the level of difficulty. A simplified version in English (20 questions) has also been prepared for those who do not speak Russian. Translation of the campaign materials into other foreign languages is possible upon prior request.
All the version are based on the best questions of the «Write your Question for the Geographical Dictation» contest. The assignments also include materials prepared by major Russian companies and foreign partners of the Russian Geographical Society.
In over the 10 years of the Geographical Dictation, more than 4 million people from 136 countries took part in it. In 2024, the Dictation was taken by over 635,000 people at 10,000 venues. The RGS campaign became the winner of the «Znanie. Award» in the category «For contribution to education in the field of ecology and tourism» and was included in the project of the information events complex of the Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs aimed at strengthening interethnic unity and protecting historical truth.
The Geographical Dictation has been held annually since 2015 on the initiative of Vladimir Putin, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Russian Geographical Society. The campaign is educational in nature and is aimed at popularizing geographical knowledge, increasing interest in science and national heritage.
