A press conference was held in Simferopol on April 25. Representative of the Border Department of the Federal Security Service of Russia in the Republic of Crimea Anton Lozovoy told about violations of environmental legislation in the Black Sea. It was noted in the Border Department of the Federal Security Service of Russia in the Republic of Crimea: more and more dolphins are dying.

- We have identified over 130 violations of environmental legislation by individuals and officials since the beginning of the year. All of them are brought to justice. During our work more than 100 illegal fishing gears were seized, most of them are nets, whose total length exceeds three kilometers. Yes, there were work cases when we checked the nets and found dolphins there. Of course, they were released. But there were situations, when dolphins were already dead”, said Anton Lozovoy.

In response, the Crimean scientists intend to open a center of assistance to the injured marine animals on the basis of the Karadag Scientific Station. The project is expected to be developed, and its ultimate goal will be the creation of a full-fledged rehabilitation environmental institution.

“We plan to create open-air cages to help and rehabilitate injured animals and as well as animals confiscated from dolphinariums for violation of conditions of detention. It will be created on the basis of the Karadag nature reserve in the near future”, said Irina Logominova, the researcher at the laboratory of biochemistry and physiology of hydrobionts at the Karadag Scientific Station named after Vyazemsky.

At the same time, according to Andrey Artov, a member of the board of the Crimean Regional Association "Ecology and Peace", the Crimean scientists can use any practices developed by foreign colleagues. In many countries, rehabilitation centers for marine life have worked for a long time. The dolphins will also be helped in the Crimean branch of Rosprirodnadzor, where you can use the special phone number to report information about the violation or about an animal that has got into trouble.

I would like to appeal to all concerned citizens who live in the Crimea and Sevastopol, to people who live on the coast and may have some kind of water craft. We hope that they will help us in rescuing those dolphins that are close to the shore, being injured or in need of any care. We ask everyone to contact us”, asked Konstantin Somik, the Deputy Head of the Interregional Department of Rosprirodnadzor for the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol.
