The team of the circumnavigation expedition of the Tomsk Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society will meet with students and schoolchildren from around the world in an online conference on May 24. Representatives of Russia, Jordan, Qatar, Egypt, Morocco and Lebanon were invited to a meeting with participants of the project "On the way of Russian Сircumnavigators". They will have the opportunity to ask questions in person to the head of the expedition, Evgeny Kovalevsky, the captain of the sailboat, Stanislav Berezkin, and the head of the coastal staff, Yulia Kalyuzhna.

Evgeny Kovalevsky and Stanislav Berezkin will talk about how to survive a shark attack and a shipwreck, cope with a strong storm, and circumvent pirates off the dangerous coast of Somalia. And Yulia Kalyuzhnaya will share the specifics of overseeing a large-scale expedition and present a unique international project "Lessons from the Ocean". This is an educational videoconference, which involves advanced scientific institutions and scientists from different countries, travelers and polar explorers, and other interesting people. They have already introduced geographical science to schoolchildren from Russia, India, Australia, Thailand and Spain.

"We invite our compatriots to meet on May 24. The crew of the expedition "On the Way of Russian Circumnavigators" wants to share their experience with young people, show how such large-scale circumnavigation expeditions are organized and how they look from the inside. On July 1, 2021, Siberian travelers Evgeny Kovalevsky and Stanislav Berezkin set off along the route of the first Russian round-the-world expeditions of the 19th century: Ivan Kruzenshtern’s (1803-1806), Yuri Lisyansky’s (1803-1806), Otto Kotzebue’s (1815-1818, 1823-1826), Vasily Golovnin’s (1817-1819), Fedor Litke’s (1826-1829), Faddey Bellingshausen and Mikhail Lazarev’s (1819-1921). The international project of the Tomsk Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society "Following the paths of Russian explorers" is dedicated to the 250th birthday anniversary of Krusenstern and the 200th anniversary of the discovery of Antarctica by Russian sailors. These events for a long time determined Russia's leadership in the development of the oceans and the discovery of new lands. You can learn more about the project and provide all possible assistance in its implementation on the website of the expedition.
