The Russian Center of Culture and Science in Karachi, Pakistan, hosted a screening of the new documentary film of the RGS "Russian Himalayas: Walking in the Clouds." The film tells about Russian travelers, scientists, and artists who have been studying Tibet, the Himalayas, and the Karakoram for more than 200 years. The beauty of this amazing region was introduced to residents of different countries of the world by Nikolai Przhevalsky and Gombozhab Tsybikov, Pyotr Kozlov and Nikolai Roerich as well as many other our compatriots.

The shooting of the film "Russian Himalayas: Walking in the Clouds" began in 2016 in India and Nepal, China, Bhutan, Pakistan, and Russia: Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Krasnodar Territory. The director is the famous documentary filmmaker, winner of the Crystal Compass Award Vladimir Shuvannikov.

“Artists, art historians, scientists, cosmonauts, diplomats, public and government figures took part in the creation of the movie. It was important to us that the residents of those countries to whom the film is dedicated, where our large-scale project was being created, saw the results,” introduced the documentary the head of the project "Russian Heritage of the Himalayas: Journey Continues", Chairman of the Krasnodar Regional Branch of the RGS Ivan Chaika.

The screening of the film in Karachi was attended by scientists, students, and postgraduates of Pakistani universities, public and political figures, representatives of the cultural community, members of the Russian Geographical Society and local residents. During the screening, there was also a discussion on the topic of Himalayan research and an exchange of scientific data. Honorary member of the Russian Geographical Society, scientific director of the project, Professor Yuri Efremov, spoke about the project and the comprehensive study of the region.

“We conducted many years of research and observations, systematized the scattered material, and added it to the latest data obtained during our expeditions. The results of the research were summarized in the monograph ‘Geography of the Himalayas’ which was gifted to local universities today. We will definitely continue this work and research," Yuri Efremov stressed.

The film "Russian Himalayas: Walking in the Clouds" was created by the Russian Geographical Society and the organizing committee of the Crystal Compass National Award with the support of the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives.
