The International Junior Geography Olympiad has ended in Belgrade. The Russian team won four gold, one silver, and one bronze medal.
The gold medalists are:
— Georgy Oshkin, a 9th-grade student at School No. 444 in Moscow;
— Timofey Lebedev, a 10th-grade student at the CPM school in Moscow;
— Evgenia Lichkovakha, a 9th-grade student at the HSE Lyceum in Moscow;
— Konstantin Grischenkov, a 9th-grade student at the gymnasium «Logos» in Dmitrov, Moscow Region.
Matvey Sokolov, a 9th-grade student at Moscow School No. 179, received a silver medal. Mikhail Gorbenko, a 9th-grade student at Moscow School No. 58, became the bronze medalist.
All team members had previously participated in the All-Russian Olympiad of Schoolchildren in Geography. Mikhail Gorbenko became its winner, while Evgenia Lichkovakha, Timofey Lebedev, Matvey Sokolov, Georgy Oshkin, and Konstantin Grischenkov were among the prize-winners of the final stage.
The Russian team was led by staff members from the Faculty of Geography of Moscow State University: Associate Professor Dmitry Bogachev and Leading Researcher Pavel Kirillov, as well as Geography Teacher Anna Romashina from «Novaya Shkola».
The team’s preparation was supported by the Ministry of Education of Russia as part of the national project «Youth and Children».
