The Russian Geographical Society specialized session of the «The World of Discoveries» will start at the All‑Russian Children’s Center «Ocean» on August 31. For three weeks, schoolchildren from Egypt, the Kyrgyz Republic, and more than 30 regions of Russia will study geography, explore the world around them, and work on joint projects.
«This is already the second time we have brought together children not only from Russia but also from other countries at the All‑Russian Children’s Center «Ocean». The international format of «The World of Discoveries» gives young geographers the opportunity to discover the amazing world of cultural diversity and scientific cooperation,» said project leader Ivan Chaika.
The programme includes intellectual games, competitions, quests, environmental cases, masterclasses and meetings with experts. One of the challenges will be a speed‑based championship in magnetic jigsaw maps assembling, during which participants will test their knowledge of the geography of Russia and the world.
For schoolchildren, they will also hold the Festival of Small Indigenous Peoples of Russia, the Day of the Archaeologist and Researcher, the Festival of the Amur Tiger and the Far Eastern Leopard, the Day of the Arctic and Antarctic, the Ecology Festival, the Day of the Sea of Japan, and the Travel Festival. The session will conclude with the presentation of projects that the teams will work on over the course of three weeks.
Representatives of the Federal Scientific Center for Biodiversity of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the «Land of the Leopard» institution, the Directorate for the Protection of Wildlife and Specially Protected Natural Areas of the Primorsky Territory, and the Assembly of Peoples of Russia in the Primorsky Territory will meet with the participants. Specialists in environmental education, youth tourism, orienteering, and international cooperation will also join the work.
The «World of Discoveries» project has been implemented since 2015 by the Russian Geographical Society together with the Ministry of Education of Russia, at the initiative of Vladimir Putin, Chairman of the RGS Board of Trustees. Thematic sessions are organized by the Krasnodar regional branch of the Society with grant support from the Russian Geographical Society.
Over the course of the project’s existence, more than 8,000 schoolchildren from 15 countries have become participants in the project at the all‑Russian and international children’s centres «Orlyonok», «Okean», «Smena», «Artek» and «Alye Parusa». In 2025, Vladimir Putin named «The World of Discoveries» one of the most successful projects of the RGS.
