Dear friends!
The outgoing year was not easy for all of us. But it confirmed how important it is to stay true to your values. The Russian Geographical Society celebrated its 177th anniversary in 2022. A lot of things have changed around, but the principles laid down by the founding fathers are still close to each of us. They are simple: you need to love and know your homeland.
Almost daily interesting and important events take place in the life of the RGS. In 2022, we went on expeditions and restored historical memory, cleaned up the Arctic and preserved rare animal species, carried out archaeological excavations and developed new tourist routes.
Events where we meet with like-minded people are especially valuable for us. And we have hundreds of thousands of them.
In the summer, we invited everyone to the long-awaited RGS Festival. Its guests had the opportunity to feel the spirit of Russia, to appreciate its geographical and cultural diversity, to feel the beauty of our nature, to learn firsthand about the current achievements of science.
In the autumn we held another Geographical Dictation. The international educational campaign of the Russian Geographical Society is becoming more and more popular from year to year, turning into a real celebration of intelligence and curiosity. Participation in the Geographical Dictation is not just another exam, but an opportunity to replenish your knowledge base, get into the mood of search and discovery.
In 2022, we celebrated several important anniversaries. Pyotr Semyonov-Tyan-Shansky, Vladimir Arsenyev, Lev Gumilyov — you can learn endlessly from our great predecessors. In addition to scientific knowledge, they left us with a sense of common destiny, became an example of loyalty to their vocation.
