On February 24, the Moscow Headquarters of the RGS hosted a presentation of the «Arctic Cleanup» mission, which will be available to users of the Russian educational simulator platform «Aerosim» for training in the management of unmanned aerial vehicles (developed by «Aerotech»).

During the mission of the Russian Geographical Society «Arctic Cleanup», the user will have to fly around the territory, detect pollution objects, and debris, record their coordinates and transfer them to the base.

The mission is based on real-world expeditionary tasks performed by members of the RGS in the Arctic region. The use of unmanned aerial vehicles for civilian purposes is currently being widely developed — they are used by employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, medical organizations, as well as to perform environmental tasks, in particular, to detect fires or count animal populations in hard-to-reach places.

Irina Rodina, Director of Communications at «Aerotech», presented Sergei Korlykhanov, First Deputy Executive Director of the RGS, with a certificate for 10 licenses with a total value of more than 1 million rubles. Based on the certificate, the RGS will be able to train participants in the expeditionary movement to control drones for expeditionary purposes, as well as use the mission for educational purposes at RGS festivals and other events.

During the event, the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Russian Geographical Society and «Aerotech» company also took place, after which the guests took a tour of the RGS Headquarters. Among the invited guests were representatives of the Federal Agency for Water Resources, the Agency for Strategic Initiatives, the Institute of Geography of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Moscow Department of Information Technology, the Polytechnic Museum, the Federal Forestry Agency, the «Atom» museum, Bauman Moscow State Technical University, the Higher School of Economics, «Rospatriotcenter», and the S. P. Korolev Training School, Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography, University 2035, the Russian Computer Sports Federation, and other organizations.
