Russian president Vladimir Putin announced the establishment of BRICS Geographer's Day at the 16th BRICS Summit, which is taking place on October 22-24 in Kazan.
“I will mention the decision to establish BRICS Geographer's Day, which will now be celebrated annually on August 18. A scientific expedition to the reserves of the Krasnoyarsk Territory and Khakassia in Russia was already timed to this date," the head of state said.
The initiative to establish BRICS Geographer's Day belongs to the Russian Geographical Society, whose Board of Trustees is chaired by Vladimir Putin.
