With the formation in 2009 of the Board of Trustees of the Russian Geographical Society headed by Russian President V.V. Putin, the Russian Geographical Society moved to active financial and organizational support for various projects that meet the goals and objectives of the Society.

The main way of such support is the provision of grants on a competitive basis. This opens up wide opportunities for the implementation of various, including private, initiatives in the field of expeditionary, research, environmental, educational and other activities.

Grant projects must be of great public importance and focused on achieving practical results in the interests of Russia and its regions.

The Company’s Expert Council when considering applications for the competition adheres to Regulations on grants, which sets out the following principles for the allocation of grants:

  • openness to applications and equal access to grants;
  • transparency of the application review procedure;
  • support for projects on the principles of co-financing;
  • prospects for further implementation of the project after the end of grant funding.

Grant projects must be of great public importance and focused on achieving practical results in the interests of Russia and its regions.
