Protection and Study Of Endangered Species

The study and protection of rare animal species, the support of scientific research and the development of infrastructure of specially protected natural areas, environmental education are the priority areas of the Russian Geographical Society’s activity.

Among rare animal species, special attention is paid to unique wild cats — the Siberian tiger, the Amur leopard, snow leopard, lynx and Pallas’s cat, as well as to the representatives of the Arctic wildlife — beluga whale, polar bear and walrus. In addition, the Russian Geographical Society supports the project «The Return of the Przewalski’s Horse», aimed at restoring the natural population of the Przewalski horse within its historical range.
