Fedor Konyukhov crossed the Atlantic Ocean during his expedition on the «AKROS» boat and thus became the first person who managed to cross the South Atlantic by rowing. A significant event happened on the night of February 11, when his boat crossed the line of 20° E (Cape Agulhas, South Africa) and entered the Indian Ocean. After 68 days of unprecedented sailing.
The expedition headquarters notes that this is Konyukhov’s second crossing of the Atlantic by rowing boat. The first was much farther north, in relatively calmer latitudes than the current «furious fifties» and «roaring forties». In 2002, the traveler crossed the ocean on a «UralAZ» boat from east to west from La Gomera Island (Canary Islands) to Barbados. The travel time then was 46 days.

The final point of the current expedition, Cape Leeuwin in Western Australia, is about 4,200 nautical miles away. The next milestone will be in 5°, which is exactly half of the route.
And the day before, the «AKROS» boat met with the «Akademik Fedorov» scientific expedition vessel, whose crew took fresh photos of Konyukhov and his vessel, and also made sure that the traveler’s communications and navigation were in order after a severe storm that lasted three days.
Fedor Konyukhov’s unprecedented expedition across two oceans began on December 5, 2024. He is going to sail alone on the rowing boat «AKROS» from Cape Horn (Chile) to Cape Leeuwin (Australia). The distance is over 15, 000 km.
