On March 25, graduates of the Mozhaisky Military Space Academy were awarded diplomas in the Grand Hall of the Headquarters of the Russian Geographical Society in St. Petersburg. The participants of the ceremony, military personnel from the People’s Republic of China, were given a tour of the historic building.
While exploring the collections of the Scientific Library of the RGS, graduates of the academy saw the printed edition of «The Society Studying Manchuria», which existed in Harbin in 1922–1928. Its tasks included studying the nature and life of Manchuria and neighboring countries, as well as organizing courses, lectures, expeditions, excursions, publishing books and magazines. The guests were also shown «Chinese New Year», a 1927 edition published by the famous Russian sinologist, associate professor at the Faculty of Law of the Pedagogical Institute in Harbin, Ippolit Baranov. The magazine contains colorful images of local deities and detailed explanations about them.
Chinese military personnel got acquainted with the exhibition «To the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War», located in the Small Hall of the Headquarters of the RGS in St. Petersburg. The guests were told about the terrible time of the siege of Leningrad by fascist troops, and were shown documents and artifacts from those years.
The joint study of the culture and history of the two countries allows us to maintain and develop friendly relations between Russia and China. The headquarters of the Russian Geographical Society in St. Petersburg is always open for friendly international contacts.
