The submissions for the international scientific research competition for schoolchildren "Arctic" are open. Its purpose is to identify gifted and talented children, develop their cognitive interests, and involve students in research activities. The organizers of the competition are the Youth Center of the RGS in the Saratov Region, the Saratov Atomic Energy Information Center, N. G. Chernyshevsky Saratov State University, the Saratov Regional Branch of the RGS together with the Russian Hydrometeorological Society and the Saratov regional center for gifted children “Galaktika64”.
The competition will be held in two stages.
Stage 1 – qualifying: from November 20, 2024, to February 23, 2025.
The qualifying stage involves the preparation of short abstracts and a video presentation of your scientific research. The competition materials are placed on any cloud drive and attached as download links when registering for the competition. The works sent to the organizing committee before and including February 23 will be evaluated by the competition jury. The results of the qualifying stage will be published on the competition's website before March 17, 2025.
The winners in the category "Grades 5-8" will be determined in one stage and invited to be awarded at the Saratov Atomic Energy Information Center (the date will be determined after the results are announced).
Stage 2 – final (only for the category "Grades 9-11")
The final stage will be held in the form of a scientific conference at the Faculty of Geography of N. G. Chernyshevsky Saratov National Research State University. During the conference, the participants will make a presentation of their scientific research. The contestants who scored the most points in the qualifying stage will be invited to the final stage.
The format and date of the final stage for the "Grades 9-11" category and the award date for the "Grades 5-8" category will be announced additionally. The organizers reserve the right to hold the conference in a remote format and to make other changes to the procedure for its holding.
Students of schools, lyceums, and gymnasiums in two age categories are allowed to participate in the competition:
1st category: students of grades 5-8;
2nd category: students of grades 9-11.
The work submitted for the competition may cover one of the following aspects of the study of the Arctic and Antarctic regions: the weather and climate of the Arctic and Antarctic, scientific research of the Arctic and Antarctic, oceanological research in the seas of the Arctic and Antarctic, environmental problems of the Arctic and Antarctic.
