On November 30, Stavropol hosted the international festival of the Russian Geographical Society "Geography". The event, held in the city's Victory Park, was the first large-scale event in the region dedicated to the popularization of geographical sciences, as well as the culture and traditions of the peoples of Russia and friendly states.
The event was attended by representatives of South Africa, Kenya, Zambia, Gabon, Morocco, Egypt, Ghana, Nigeria, Libya, Syria, Iran, Algeria, Tunisia, Ghana, Turkey, Greece, Ivory Coast, India, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Abkhazia, Turkmenistan, Armenia, and also the Chechen Republic, the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic, the Republic of Dagestan, the Republic of North Ossetia–Alania, the Republic of Ingushetia, the Karachay–Cherkess Republic, the Stavropol Territory, and other regions.
“We are glad that today this festival is taking place in the wonderful Stavropol Territory, where many nationalities live. Stavropol is also visited by representatives of a large number of foreign countries. Popularization of Russian culture and knowledge of the cultures of friendly countries is one of the missions of the Russian Geographical Society. We are confident that with the support of our partners we will be able to tell people about the geography of our country," said Artur Latypov, Director of the Regional Development Department of the RGS’s Executive Directorate, at the opening of the festival.

The festival was held with the support of North-Caucasus Federal University (NCFU), the government of the Stavropol Territory. Media partner of the event was radio "Gordost".
“Our country is rich in resources, unique sights, and a variety of cultures of multinational peoples. I am sure that holding such events will allow to learn more about Russia, and will also contribute to the development of the ecosystem of tourism and the hospitality industry in our country," said Dmitry Bespalov, rector of NCFU, Chairman of the Stavropol Branch of the RGS.
Each country and republic presented its own farmstead at the festival, where it was possible to taste national food, get acquainted with the cultural peculiarities of the region. Master classes, a concert program, quizzes, contests, VR screenings, and watching documentaries about Russia and the activities of the Russian Geographical Society were organized for the guests of the geography festival.
Earlier, regional festivals of the Russian Geographical Society were also held in the Kurgan Region and the Perm Region. In total, more than 33,000 people became participants in 2024.
