On February 26, a delegation from the Russian Geographical Society visited the headquarters of the Siam Society Under Royal Patronage in Bangkok. Svetlana Vorobyova, Deputy Director of the Expert Analytics and International Affairs Department of the RGS, presented the President of the Siam Society, Bilaibhan Sampatisiri, with a certificate of honor from the President of the Russian Geographical Society.
During the meeting, the parties discussed a wide range of increasing cooperation in the popularization and development of geographical science, as well as cultural ties. In particular, an agreement was reached on the promotion of scientific publications in the journals The Journal of the Siam Society, The Natural History Bulletin and Geography, Environment, Sustainability. The issue of organizing a series of lectures at lecture halls in Moscow and Bangkok was considered.
The Siam Society is a non-profit organization and scientific society founded in Bangkok in 1904. The purpose of the organization is to collect historical chronicles, study the history, culture, and art of Thailand, conduct archaeological research, study the anthropology and ethnography of the country.
The ceremony of signing the agreement between the Russian Geographical Society and the Siam Society Under Royal Patronage took place on October 8, 2018, at the initiative of Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of the Kingdom of Thailand.
