The Russian Geographical Society continues to prepare for Geographer's Day. Starting in 2024, this professional holiday will bring together specialists from the BRICS countries.
Since the beginning of Russia's BRICS presidency in 2024, official events have been accompanied by photo exhibitions of the RGS’s contest "The Most Beautiful Country". Thus, members of the delegations of the foreign ministries of the member states of the association could admire the natural beauty of our homeland in Moscow in winter and during the meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs in Nizhny Novgorod in June.
On June 13-15, the sixth meeting of the BRICS Working Group on Ocean and Polar Science and Technology was held in Murmansk with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Arctic Development and Economics of the Murmansk Region, the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Murmansk Marine Biological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the Murmansk Regional Branch of the RGS. The event was attended by more than 50 scientists implementing research projects in this field. Representatives of Iran and the UAE also joined the usual five states after the expansion of the association.

During the meeting, priority topics of cooperation for future joint research and development were discussed. Denis Moiseev, Deputy Director for Science at MMBI RAS, Chairman of the Murmansk Regional Branch of the RGS, in his speech noted the significant role of joint expeditions of the RGS, the Russian Ministry of Defense, and scientific organizations in the study of the Arctic. Measures to popularize science among young people are also of great importance. Svetlana Vorobyova, Deputy Director of the Expert Analytics and International Affairs Department of the RGS, shared the results of work in this direction.
Delegates were also invited to the celebrations in honor of Geographer's Day of BRICS. In addition to the official ceremony, which will take place in Moscow on August 18, participants of the program will have an exciting expedition to the protected areas of Khakassia prepared by the Russian Geographical Society together with Rossotrudnichestvo and the Joint Directorate of the Sayano-Shushensky Reserve and Shushensky Bor National Park Federal State Budgetary Institution.
