Unique exhibits of the so-called “Golden Fund” of the Russian Geographical Society are presented at exhibitions in several cities of Russia. Expositions are open in Kaliningrad and Yoshkar-Ola.
Starting November 11, one exhibition has been opened in the Mari El Republic, in the main building of Volga State Technological University. During the month, students, teachers and guests of the university will be able to see the first Russian geography textbooks XVIII century maps of various provinces of the Russian Empire, as well as ethnographic maps.

And until the end of November, everyone can get acquainted with a thematic exhibition of the Russian Geographical Society dedicated to the Society’s expeditions of the second half of the XIX century. The exhibition is held at Immanuel Kant Baltic State University. Copies of the original maps and plans of the expeditions reflect the travel routes of famous explorers, such as Semenov-Tyan-Shansky and Miklukho-Maklai. The Kaliningrad Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society in cooperation with Baltic State University is planning to organize 17 thematic exhibitions displaying maps and plans of expeditions, geography textbooks and other archive materials within two years.

The unique archive of the Russian Geographical Society has been collected since the establishment of the Society in 1845. For 173 years, the oldest geographic archives in the country, one of the largest geographic libraries in the world and the richest collection of maps with more than 40,000 unique materials have been created. Previously, the archive collection of the Russian Geographical Society has hardly been displayed anywhere.
