The Russian Geographical Society and the Russian Ministry of Defense conducted more than 50 joint research expeditions from 2021 to 2025. The scientific data and practical results obtained are of great importance for ensuring national security, developing infrastructure in remote regions, and strengthening the country’s position in exploring the oceans and the Arctic. The results of the fruitful cooperation were announced at a meeting of the Coordination Center for the Promotion and implementation of RGS projects in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation by Deputy Head of the Ministry of Defense, Major General Pavel Fradkov.
«The Russian Geographical Society is the oldest public organization in Russia, which this year turned 180 years old. The history of the Russian Geographical Society itself is an example of cooperation in the name of great common goals, a deep understanding of patriotism and civic duty,» Pavel Fradkov emphasized.
He added that the joint work of the Ministry of Defense and the RGS over the past five years in various regions of Russia has contributed to the holding of more than 40 exhibitions in the central park «Patriot». They were seen by over 500,000 visitors. In the Armed Forces, such thematic exhibitions are held at 177 venues, which are visited by almost 1.5 million people annually.
The meeting was attended by Artyom Manukyan, First Vice-President and Executive Director of the RGS. He noted that the expeditions of the Russian Geographical Society and the Ministry of Defense make a great contribution to education, introducing a wide range of people to the glorious past and present of Russia.
«Thanks to modern digital solutions, interactive materials are easy to learn and accessible at any time,» added Artem Manukyan.
The meeting included the presentation of awards to the personnel of the Russian Armed Forces and representatives of the Russian Geographical Society, who made a significant contribution to joint activities in 2025.
