Screenings of the film of the Russian Geographical Society «Russia: A Virtual Tour», filmed in 360° spherical video format, took place in the Chilean city of Concón. The demonstration of the film was part of an educational event for children, which was organized at the educational and development center «Mandarin» with the support of the Russian House in Chile.

The VR film «Russia: A Virtual Tour» was created on the basis of the most beautiful shots collected by the film crew in various regions of our vast country. Filming took place over three months, with the help of scuba divers and pilots, climbers and meteorologists, and people from many other interesting professions. Now their work allows the viewer to immerse themselves in the world of wildlife: to see how guillemots nest and seals swim, how lotus fields bloom, and hear gray whales sing.

In Chile, the film became the central event of a program that combined science and modern technology. The children conducted experiments, answered questions from an exciting quiz, and then went on a virtual trip to the Kola Peninsula and Lake Baikal, to the Crimea and the Volga Delta, to the Caucasus, Kamchatka and the Putorana Plateau, to the Far Eastern Marine and Kandalaksha Nature Reserves.

«Using virtual reality expands educational opportunities and makes studying geography visual and engaging,» said Olesya Vissarionova, Director of the center «Mandarin».

The Russian House in Chile and the RGS are planning to develop the project and organize a series of screenings of the film in Spanish. The initiative is aimed at popularizing Russia’s natural and cultural heritage using digital solutions. The «Skans» charitable foundation provided VR glasses for watching the film at the «Mandarin» center in Concón.
