Awards Commission
The Russian Geographical Society has the right to award, nominate, and support candidates for honorary titles of the Society, awards, and prizes awarded by the Russian Federation, the Russian Academy of Sciences, other organizations and institutions as well as by governments and organizations of foreign states for special merits and achievements in the field of geographical science and related nature and society sciences as well as for organizational and other assistance to the Society.
The Awards Commission is formed by the Governing Council of the Society to consider submissions for medals and awards of the Society. In the course of its activities, the Commission organizes interaction with the bodies and regional branches of the Society when considering submissions for medals and awards of the Society, gives an expert assessment of the works and merits of the Society’s award and medal candidates. Proposals for awarding medals and awards of the Society are sent to the President of the Society for approval, after which they are submitted to the next meeting of the Society’s Governing Council.
