Buryat Republican Branch

The Buryat Republican branch of the Russian Geographical Society was established on July 13, 1894 (originally as the Troitsk-Kavsko-Kyakhtinsky branch of the Amur Department of the IRGO).

The main focus of his activity is conducting scientific research related to the development of the Baikal region. The most popular project implemented with the direct participation of the Department is the Mira expedition on Lake Baikal." An active publishing activity is underway: at his suggestion, the magazines "World of Baikal" and "Ushkan" are being published, the encyclopedia "Baikal" has been published, the encyclopedia "Buryatia" is being prepared for release, and there are other publishing projects. A wide partnership network has been established with leading organizations in the region for fruitful cooperation. Scientific conferences and seminars are held annually. Special attention is paid to working with young people – the staff of the Department tries to develop an interest in geography and foster a careful attitude towards nature. Youth summer geographical and environmental schools were held on the basis of the Istomino Ecological and Educational Center. It is worth noting the work on the Company's grant projects. In 2014, the expedition "In the footsteps of N.M. Przhevalsky" was very significant, dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the first expedition of the famous traveler.
