Nizhny Novgorod Regional Office

The Nizhny Novgorod regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society was founded in 1947. In the last years of the 20th century, the work of the Department was suspended, but in 2005 it resumed its activities. Currently, it consists of 53 people.

Among the main goals and objectives of the Department are the study of the nature of the Nizhny Novgorod region, the study of environmental problems and issues of socio–economic development of the region, the search for ways to modernize school and university geographical education.
