Office in the Republic of Crimea
For more than 160 years, the Russian Geographical Society has been exploring the Crimea. In 1945, by the decision of the Academic Council of the All-Union Geographical Society in Crimea, the Crimean Department of the Society was organized on the basis of the geographical Faculty of the now Taurida Vernadsky National University. It was headed by Professor Nikolai Alexandrovich Troitsky.
Russians Russian Geographical Society's Governing Council unanimously decided on May 5, 2014, to establish a new branch of the Russian Geographical Society – the branch of the Russian Geographical Society in the Republic of Crimea.
Currently, the Crimean Branch of the Russian Geographical Society carries out its work in the following scientific areas: the study of the productive forces of the Republic of Crimea as an integral part of the Russian state; research and conservation of nature; geoecology of marine areas; history, culture, ethnogenesis of the Crimean society; scientific, educational and patriotic work; popularization of geographical knowledge; expedition activities and travel; youth geographical movement.
