Sakhalin Regional Branch

The Sakhalin Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society was established in 1956.

It participates in a comprehensive study of the Russian Far East, conducts scientific research and searches for optimal and favorable ways of development and sustainable functioning of the national economy and all life support systems in the region. There are sections of school and university geography, environmental management, biogeography, oceanography, ecology and nature conservation, tourism and geopolitics. Representative offices have been opened in the cities of Okha, Dolinsk, Kurilsk and Yuzhno-Kurilsk.
