Trans-Baikal Regional Office

The Trans-Baikal regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society was opened in Chita on July 16, 1894. It was named the Chita branch of the Amur Branch of the Imperial Russian Geographical Society and became one of the first regional divisions.

The main focus of his work is conducting scientific and practical conferences, seminars, lectures and other scientific events in the field of geography, ecology and related sciences. The work of the staff is mainly aimed at the development of local lore, ethnography, toponymic work, and the study of the history of geography. Work is underway to preserve the world and national natural and cultural heritage, protect nature and its monuments in the territory of the region. Scientific research and expeditions are regularly organized, which contribute to the popularization of the achievements of Russian geography.
