The fall period of the project of the Russian Geographical Society «Geography Not-lesson» has ended. In 2025, all regions of Russia and eight foreign countries took part in it. More than 900 interesting events on the topic o"Geography Not-Lesson» is an educational format developed and launched by the Russian Geographical Society in 2023. Unlike a standard lesson, the project turns the learning process into a game and an entertaining journey through geography and related sciences. A «Not-Lesson» can take on completely different formats: a hike, a master class, an excursion, interactive classes using virtual technologies, a dialogue with a scientist, etc. Informal communication and a creative approach allow the participants of a «Not-Lesson» to become interested and learn new things about the geography, culture, and nature of Russia. Over the past years, more than 147,000 people have become project participants.

The Russian Geographical Society is celebrating its 180th anniversary in 2025. Throughout its history, the RGS has conducted large-scale research, organized expeditions, and explored new frontiers. In the anniversary year, the subject of the «Geography Not-Lessons» is «Travel and Discover». It invites you to try on the roles of explorers, discoverers, and scientists in order to continue the traditions of great discoveries together.

The central venues of the fall period of the project were organized in St. Petersburg. At the «Geography Not-Lesson», which took place on the icebreaker «Krasin», the ship’s captain Nikolai Yukevich spoke about the peculiarities of nature and modern Arctic research. The guests of the event tried themselves as participants of Arctic expeditions in an exciting game. In the Tsarskoye Selo Museum-Reserve, an unusual «Geography Not-Lesson» was dedicated to exotic animals and rare plants.

In Abkhazia, the participants of the «Geography Not-Lesson» ascended the Khimsa Glacier to assess the state of local ecosystems and routes for ecological tourism. An interactive event within the framework of the project dedicated to International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer was held in Egypt. Tajikistan hosted a virtual tour of nine natural wonders of Russia, and India hosted a quiz with questions about geographical discoveries. In Australia, the «Geography Not-Lesson» turned into an educational hike along the trails of Bungonia National Park.

Many unusual «Geography Not-Lessons» took place in fall in various regions of Russia. In the Republic of Bashkortostan, the project participants went underground, in the Sverdlovsk Region they plunged under water, in the Krasnoyarsk Territory they climbed to the top of an ancient volcano, in the Kurgan Region they visited the «Ural Mars». The participants of the «Geography Not-Lesson» in Dagestan made an exciting journey through museums, landscapes, and pages of the Red Book. In the Kaluga region they went hiking along an ecological trail and assessed its current state; in the Saratov region they visited the bottom of the ancient sea and launched a real radio probe into the sky; in the Republic of Adygea the participants visited karst caves; in Kabardino-Balkaria they revealed the secrets of an abandoned aul.
