Amur Regional Branch

Russian Russian Geographical Society's Amur Regional Branch traces its history back to the Siberian Department of the Imperial Russian Geographical Society, established in 1851. In 1884, the Society for the Study of the Amur Region was established in Vladivostok, and in 1909 its branch was established in Blagoveshchensk.

The main activities of the Department are the study of nature, population and economy of the Amur region, the popularization of acquired knowledge, participation in the work of expert commissions on the development of territorial planning documents of the region, conducting environmental examinations of projected, under construction and operating facilities, the development of geographical education and the popularization of geographical knowledge.

Since 2016, the Department has been implementing a large, interregional project of the Russian Geographical Society – the Amur Basin Integrated Expedition, the main purpose of which is a comprehensive study of the natural conditions and the state of the environment of the Amur River basin.
